Jakub Montewka - (born 06.08.1997) composer and conductor. Assistant conductor of the Opole Philharmonic in the season 2022-2023.

 

He studied composition at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Simon Bainbridge and Rubens Askenar (Diploma of Higher Education, 2016-2018) and at the Frederic Chopin University of Music in Warsaw (Poland) with Marcin Błażewicz (Bachelor of Arts, 2018-2020).

Montewka studied conducting at the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków with Paweł Przytocki and at the FCUM with Monika Wolińska and Szymon Kawalla (2018-2020). He took part in masterclasses with Colin Metters, Marin Alsop, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Magnus Lindberg, Oliver Knussen, Carlo Montanaro and Massimiliano Caldi.

Jakub Montewka is a finalist of Bartók World Competition 2020 Composers Competition and the 7th Witold Lutosławski Competition for Young Conductors. He won 1st Prize and the Performers' Prize in the Composition Competition "Uczniowskie Forum Muzyczne" (Warsaw, 2013) and 1st Prize in the 2nd International Composition Competition „Patri Patriae” (Katowice, 2014).

 

He participated in conducting competitions: the Donatella Flick Conducting Competition 2023, Lliria City of Music 2023 and 8th Matačić International Competition of Young Conductors.

 

Jakub Montewka is active as a conductor since 2014. In 2019 he conducted the premiere recording of "Maat's Feather" by Marcin Jachim, as a part of the CD debut of the Chopin University Modern Ensemble, nominated to the prestigious FRYDERYK 2021 award.

In 2021 he became the principal conductor of flow orchestra (former Concentus Viridis), which he co-founded.
